Queensbury Academy Case Study

The school (formerly known as Queensbury Upper School) was converted to an academy in September 2012, and was renamed Queensbury Academy. Queensbury Academy is a mixed, 11 to 18 year old secondary school and 6th form in Dunstable, Bedfordshire. In September 2015, the academy was a fully enrolling secondary school for Years 7 to 13 year olds. The academy has 900 students on roll, including 6th form students. The academy was rated as “Good” by Ofsted in its 2017 Ofsted Inspection. Queensbury is the only school with a Good Ofsted Rating in Dunstable and is set to be on its way to being Outstanding.

In the Summer of 2018 Hazlemere Commercial were awarded a £181,000 + VAT refurbishment at Queensbury Academy in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, which is also sponsored by the Development Education  Trust. Queensbury is a secondary schools for 11 to 18 year old’s with over 1,050 students, and is also sponsored by the Development Education  Trust. The window and door replacement contract at Queensbury Academy (the 2nd awarded to them by the Development Education Trust) involved Hazlemere Commercial manufacturing and installing white powder coated aluminium window and door products including the Sapa DF75 Si casement window system and Sapa ST commercial entrance doors, along with replacement timber cladding. The works were to several educational blocks and to a sloped walkway area.

The Development Education Trust is a multi-academy trust consisting of sixteen schools, eleven of which are primary and five are secondary academies and free schools. The organisation is an international education company that transforms lives by improving education around the world. The Development Education Trust aims to inspire, challenge and support their leaders and teachers to make every lesson count.

The Trust had first contracted Hazlemere Commercial to undertake refurbishment work at one of their schools, Abbey Woods Academy in Berinsfield, Wallingford, Oxfordshire. Click here for details This initial contract was for £195,000 + VAT worth of new windows and doors. A third contract for £168,000 + VAT was awarded by the Development Education Trust to Hazlemere Commercial to undertake a refurbishment at St. Mark’s Church of England Academy in Mitcham to fabricate and fit new replacement Sapa DF75 Si powder coated aluminium thermally broken casement windows and Sapa Storm Force commercial aluminium entrance doors.
