New Aluminium Double Glazed Extension at Seer Green Baptist Church

Seer Green Baptist Church delighted with Hazlemere’s bespoke aluminium installation

Following an extensive consultation, design process and tender submission phase, Hazlemere Commercial were awarded the contract to convert and extend the foyer at Seer Green Baptist Church in Wood Pond Close, Seer Green, near Beaconsfield in Bucks to incorporate a more modern, larger and welcoming entrance with a covered glazed external veranda.

The project was far from straight-forward, particularly after Hazlemere Commercial’s installers had exposed the existing structure during construction to discover a concrete encased steel, whose existence was not possible to identify on survey. However, thanks to having the trust of a very understanding client, Hazlemere Commercial were able to overcome the difficulties thanks to a lot of hard graft and initiative based on over 30 years’ experience and expertise designing, manufacturing and fitting aluminium double glazed window, door and conservatory products.

This glass extension initially involved the fitting of a large new RSJ following the removal of two brick piers, two brick planters and the existing overhanging porch and lobby ceiling. The flat roof above the existing lobby was removed to allow an new double glazed Ultraframe Veranda Roof to fit. When cutting back the existing roof, Hazlemere Commercial’s installers made allowances for creating a 90mm soffit to match the rest of the building, as the new Ultraframe roof was specially designed to fill in-between two existing soffits.

In addition to the Ultraframe aluminium powder coated roof, the other new matching bespoke aluminium fenestration products specified on this project were 100mm wide Hydro Sapa commercial STII double glazed aluminium entrance doors, Sapa commercial aluminium casement side lights, all of which were fitted with argon filled double glazed sealed units with Low “E” toughened safety glass with warm edge spacer bars. The sloping veranda roof glazing was fitted with Pilkington Activ-Clear self-cleaning glass to assist with ease of on-going maintenance.

Hazlemere Commercial then built an insulated floor screed to match the existing finished floor levels. Hazlemere also incorporated the rainwater outlet from the roof within the Veranda roof’s aluminium upright posts, leading to a more aesthetically pleasing, yet highly practical end result.

This substantial new entrance extension was completed in time for its official opening during Easter 2019. Hazlemere Commercial’s Marketing Director Mark Austin commented “It was a privilege to partner with Seer Green Baptist Church on this unique project, and especially pleasing to receive genuine gratitude from the Church leadership and members. We were honoured as a company to be invited to the opening ceremony and service for the new extension. When we later received a glowing testimonial from Seer Green Baptist Church Secretary Timothy Cox, for our products and quality of installation it made all the extra effort that was needed in order to fulfil the Church’s brief worthwhile.” (see below)

“As Secretary of Seer Green Baptist Church, Wood Pond Close, Seer Green, Bucks; it falls to me to complete a customer’s report on the recent addition of a front porch/entrance to the church.
Hazlemere was one of a handful of companies that were approached with a view to quoting us for the proposed works. Given that the work necessitated attaching a new structure to an existing structure that was completed some forty years ago, the resulting quote and description of the work proposed were sufficient for the Diaconate to accept Hazlemere’s proposal and grant them the contract.”

“There was a tight time-frame due to the use of the church building and the funds available, but we cannot fault the work that was undertaken and those who worked so hard to complete within the deadline. We were pleased to open the building at Easter this year (2019). This is especially true when it was discovered that steel beams were enclosed in concrete along the existing church frontage and they had to come out for the new structure to be attached. Having been present during the works, I know how hard they worked and some of the problems that they faced and successfully overcame.”

“The resulting creation had granted the church a much improved, open-plan foyer and entrance area that is not only far lighter and brighter but also means we have clawed back dead space and created a far nicer space for people to enter. Everyone who uses the building has remarked on how the area is much improved and generally gives the building a more contemporary and brighter feel. On behalf of the Church, I have to state that we have been more than satisfied with every aspect of our contact with the company during this time – from the initial contact to the design phase and then for actual work done and the post-completion contact for additional/snagging points. All contact was dealt with promptly and efficiently and Hazlemere is a company that we would heartedly recommend on the back of the work they undertook for us.” Timothy Cox, Seer Green Baptist Church Secretary, 17th May 2019.New Ultraframe Veranda Roof at Seer Green Baptist Church
